The designer/actor split is the same distinction as Parrish’s space, but stated as a role rather than a moment — which makes it easier to actually use, since you can ask “which one is talking right now.”

You cannot step out and act as the designer until you can see the actor operating. Dalio assumes this capacity and never explains how to acquire it; this is the missing first step.
